I was unaware of my passivity
The Quest 1.0 at Canigou meant new found beliefs which were unfamiliar or I had lost.
I had rejected expressions of masculinity before the Quest, conflating them with unwholesome “locker room” culture. I was unaware of my passivity and tendency to make excuses, of putting off leadership and seeking comfort in unhealthy choices.
I made painful self discoveries and joyful resolutions during the Quest. I resolved to leave weak behaviours behind on the mountain, including the discovery of how a nice guy like me was wounding his family, and have replaced them with a surprising and holy combination of new found strengths and an increased desire to follow Jesus Christ.
The Quest was certainly profound but, for true life change, action speaks louder than words. I am focussing on my immediate resolutions, but have a list for further work. This is exciting; I am determined to apply my new found energy to continue to change by putting Jesus first and fighting for my wife and family everyday. I am grateful for the leadership, vulnerability, camaraderie and challenges from the guys who fought with and for me, pushing me to Jesus’ cross, and of course the beauty of the Beatitudes community.
